Denver 2

Winter is off to a great start all over the country, but perhaps nowhere more so than Colorado. Local resorts have been continuously picking up new snow since early October and this week up four feet of new snow fell across Summit County. Even more strange, the Denver area picked up two to three feet of new snow. Arbor team riders Pat Milbery and Moss Halladay were in the city for the weather event and of course made them most of it with some urban sessions. Check out some shots of Denver getting buried in October.

Arbor sponsored the 2009 National Kidney Foundation Pro Am Surfing Festival and it will go down in history as one of the best run charity surfing events of all time.  Amateurs and professionals competed in a small ground swell and everyone had a great time.  The event has a rich 24 year history and this year was no different…in fact it may have been even better.

Rich and Phil Salick, and the NKF with the help of a few dozen dedicated volunteers put on a great contest and there was plenty of other activities from the human slingshot and indoboarding at Shepard park to the tandem surfing competition at the pier. It’s estimated that over 50,000 people came out to enjoy the fun and festivities. In all the event raised over 150,000 dollars to benefit the fight against kidney disease.

In case you couldn’t make it to the beach this year, the contest was even broadcast live on the internet. It was a great opportunity for the surfers to show off their talent and benefit a great cause at the same time. We wish that there was a cure for kidney disease today, and after this weekend maybe we’re just a little closer to that goal.
