Summer Camp Is Over: Go To School!

The Mt. Hood summer camps are officially over and Sammy Spiteri wants all these damn kids to go back to school already. J/K kids Sammy loves you and missed you already. This summer, Sammy was not only a ladies man and camp counselor by night but also one hot shredda and Windells video star by day. If you’ve never gotten in some summer snowboarding at Mt. Hood, you’re missing out. Sign up now for camp next summer and maybe you’ll be lucky enough to have Sammy as your counselor…check his opening part in the closing video of the season.

Windells Rainy Day = Skate Session

It’s been a tough summer up at Mt. Hood with by far more rainy days then sunny days. So it’s lucky that several of the Arbor team riders including Nick Visconti, Curtis Woodman and Sammy Spiteri have been at Windells because they have a indoor skate park.

Windells session 4 sure was a blast, and how could it not have been with the likes of Nick Visconti, Curtis Woodman and friends, Jason Robinson and Stevie Bell hanging around. The single largest and longest knockout games ever recorded went down, some pretty incredible skate sessions happened in BOB and the Concrete Jungle and we all shredded one of the funnest on hill parks to date!

Windells Session #4 2011 is a wrap! Actually, better said it has been unwrapped. With campers coming in from Europe, The Americas and California, Session 4 hit the record books. Mary Walsh, Windells athlete director, said “this is the best session Windells has ever had since I have been here.” The magic recipe was a group of unique individuals cooped up in a small house, with a refrigerator full of humus and scotch determined to skate, shred and laugh our lives away. With the help of Arbor, Sessions, Arnette, Lib-Tech and Forum, Stevie Bell, Curtis Woodman, Jason Robinson, and myself left more than a carbon footprint; we left with life long friends, memories and camp appropriate debaucheries. These might be recognizable names but after ten days together these names were obsolete and were collectively changed to SchemieBear, SleepyBear, GnarlyBear and MogulyBear.

The week started off with a gathering of professional athletes brought together by Mary Walsh (OrganizationalBear) and Nj Peterson (DriverBear). Soon after, we were running from camp officials for “no helmets” and thrashing the best skate-park in North America. The first night of course ended in seasonal snowboard recaps and PBR. Following throughout the week was non-stop action. From an on-hill take over of unconventional snowboarding to an off-hill camper sugar high from free ice cream, we did nothing short of burn 5,000 calories a day. Camper high fives, summer romance and Government Camp dance parties were only daily standards though; there were highlights… Thanks to Bhappy Films, Paul Heran, we had an Arnette sponsored pre-teen pre-party for the world premier of “Happy Days.” Standout parts, for sure, were legend Curtis Woodman and up-and-comer Sammy Spiteri. The next day J-Rob hosted a manual contest and gave away a free lib-tech skateboard to the camper who manualed the furthest in BOB (acronym for “building out back.”) Looking back, we definitely played into our stereotypical roles; for instance, Stevie Bell hosted a basketball game of knockout that took over the entire front courtyard. The last night, Curtis and I hoped to inspire some mindfulness about our affect on the environment, so I gave away a Arbor snowboard to the camper that picked up the most trash around camp. However entertaining and successful these events were, Sessions kept the daily hype around camp- It’s truly unbeleivable how hyped campers get on the possibility for a new tee or a large sticker.

The week was unbelievable; truly an experience of a lifetime, or maybe of a year. Windells has invited this eclectic crew to come back for a “bear” reunion session next year. Maybe next year, the bear crew’s shirts will come off for Petey Pablo at a late-night Ratskeller dance party, or maybe it’ll be just mine again. Maybe we will find a hot-tub to soak our old bones in, or maybe we will all still complain of the aches and pains while trying to convince ourselves we are old. Maybe we will all have girlfriends, or maybe we will have more late-night debates about whether “that” girl is old enough or not. I don’t know what will happen in the future, but I do know what happened last week. Life was lived.

Arbor Snowboards At Mt. Hood

In may be summer, but that doesn’t mean the Arbor Snowboard team goes in to heat hibernation. Scotty Vine is up coaching snowboarding at High Cascade snowboard camp while Sammy Spiteri is over at Windells teaching the young shredders there. Nick Visconti’s session at Windells is coming up in mid-July and Lynn Neil is up there rehabbing her back injury and starting to shred hard again. It’s a big summer for the Arbor Snowboards team so check back for more details. In this Windells session one recap video, Sammy Spiteri gets a couple of shots.

“Mild sunburns, a pint of alo vera, and a town full of hipsters- yesterday was nothing but epic. The previous night we danced the night away and captivated a stubborn society of black leather jackets and Pbr drinkers. Cali Brotha’s bringing Cali Rays. After 20 days of rain, we rolled into town and brought and epic sunny day. Dropped by West Linn and Burnside skateparks, pulled our socks high, put our vans on and heshed! After we rolled up to Windells, stopped by Thai home- the best Thai in the world. Got satisfied, re energized and dropped by Windells. Uhhh more skating. The new skatepark at Windells is perhaps the most epic skate park in history. But, after a few meetings with new head coach, Danger Dave and the face of Windells, Mary Walsh, we called it a night! Wait what????? Hell no. The Shack- karaokee with the Arkians, Windells coaches, and councelors kicking off Session 1 at Windells. Most were plastered, all sang, and everyone woke up in pain. The day before arrival day. Shout out to Arbor, Sessions, Vonzipper and Windells camp to hyping the campers and staff. We are kicking off the season with a bang!”

Hey kids, it’s time to burn those text books and start thinking about summer camp. Why not go snowboarding this summer? That’s right…head to Mt. Hood and get your summer shred on at Windells summer snowboard camp and get schooled by Arbor International team rider, Nick Visconti. There is no doubt that good times will be had. (Please don’t actually burn your books, we can’t really condone that. Maybe just bury them. The new edition will be out next year anyway.)

Itâ€™s that hazy time of year again. Youâ€™re sitting in your chair in math class, half-listening as your teacher drones on about the quadratic formula and half-staring out the window at blue skies and green grass. Summer vacation is on the horizon and the best place to spend it is at Mount Hood in Oregon with Windells. Lucky for you, thereâ€™s still time to get in on the action.
Windells Session 1, June 6-13, is starting summer off with a bang! Over the last year, we have built some wild new features on campus and the campers during Session 1 will be the first to try everything out! Two new dry slopes and campus bag jump for perfecting tricks and the biggest skatepark in the Northwest that caters to both beginning skaters learning to push around as well as concrete wave aficionados.
Thereâ€™s more, too! Session 1 is getting an infusion of wild style. Nick Visconti, Tim Humphreys, and Austin Hironaka will be captivating your minds while igniting creativity on and off the mountain. Along side Sessions and Think Thank professionals, Tahoe Dangerzoneâ€™s Brent Oftedal and NJ Petersen will be catalysts for a dynamic Windells summer shredding epidemic.
This is the second summer that Nick Visconti is kicking off the season at Windells and he is ridiculously excited. â€œIâ€™m holding my breath till camp starts, I hope camp is soon because I am already feeling light-headed!â€
More mystical than last year, he goes on to explain about what campers can potentially expect on and off hill. â€œI have been slaving away to unravel the ancient mysteries of Egyptian building technology to create an unfathomable feature with cosmic mystique. Although minds of modern civilization are not yet ready to understand our discovery, Hump, Naka and I will unveil the unknown. Session 1 will rediscover the intricacies of the mind and explore the possibilities of a snowboard.â€

Arbor Invades Windells At Mt. Hood

Arbor team riders Pat Milbery, Moss Halladay and Joe Bosler led the final session at Windells this summer.

The Arbor Snow team took over Windell’s Snowboard Camp at Mt Hood this summer for their final session. Team riders Pat Milbery, Moss Halladay and Joe Bosler held down their signature DREAM FEATURE collaboration session with Skullcandy with a super unique build.

The crew built a multi-directional feature that consisted of a c-shapedÂ corrugatedÂ tube, aÂ barrelÂ jib, a dance floor box and aÂ rhythmÂ section with a mailbox spine to keep the flow going. The kids at camp loved the feature, which was the goal of the team build. Click here for video of this ultra creative feature.

The team also hosted a hip-hop freestyle battle based on words pertaining to Arbor as a brand and as a education to increase the campers knowledge of the brand. Pat, Moss and Joe awarded a bunch of Arbor gear to the campers who participated in the battle including a complete OSO skate deck, an 09/10 Draft snowboard and very comfortable Arbor bambooÂ crew-neckÂ sweater.

The crew also hosted a mustard eating contest on hill which some lucky campers got hooked up with some new Arbor fitted hats.Â Last but not least, the campers got to be a part of the knockout basketball battle, where the elimination rounds lead to a jousting battle over the foam pit. The lucky few left in this activity won new Arbor beanies and their choice of fitted hats. Every camper during that session also got hooked up with a new Arbor tree-chain necklace, the first 200 Arbor ever produced.
