The first Koa came from a forest restoration project on Maui, where dead trees were removed by helicopter, and sold to fund the effort. That work is done, and the land was added to the Haleakala National Park, where it will be forever protected. When we founded Arbor, we also started our Returning Roots program, which is dedicated to the preservation of Hawaii’s Koa Forests. In 2008, we stopped using Koa, as sustainable sources became hard to find, but we continued on with Returning Roots, giving back to this critical natural and cultural treasure, which is so closely tied to the roots of the surf, skate, snow way of life.

To celebrate our 25th Anniversary, we used the last two Koa logs sourced by Arbor’s co-founder, Chris Jensen, to create a limited edition Koa topped Element. The Element is our cornerstone Mountain-Twin. For 25 years it’s been the board we’ve built our line around. We’re proud to offer it one last time with Hawaiian Koa.

Arbor's Shaping Ethos

Grip Tech + Parabolic Profiling

The system shaping philosophy underpins the design of every snowboard in our line. It allows us to create advanced true-rocker and true-camber designs. As a result we preserve all of the inherent riding benefits of these proven platforms by avoiding hybridization. Two distinct technologies make this possible:

Parabolic Profiling

We use a unique shaping technique that replaces the single radius arc found in traditional camber or rocker with a more advanced parabolic profile. The design blends five separate radii together to create a parabolic arc which gradually reduces the amount of rocker or camber toward the tip and tail. In our System Rocker shapes the design lowers the leading edge to improve edge hold. In our System Camber shapes the design makes the leading edge less aggressive for smoother performance. The blended five radii design also drastically improves our ability to tune each shape in our line for ability level, target terrain and riding style.

The System X Baseplate

FOUND ON ALL ARBOR BINDINGS

A proprietary design that transfers rider input out to four heel-to-toe convergence zones, improving edge controls and response time.
A concave design allows a board to flex more seamlessly by reducing flat spots for improved edge performance.
When paired with an Arbor Snowboard, the System X design improves the activation of Arbor's Grip Tech contact points.
This unique binding / board interaction provides maximum performance at speed, in steeps, amd through any turn, carve or spin.

VIEW BINDINGS

Fender Tech

The edge control created by Arbor's System platform allows us to add Fenders that slightly lift a board's leading edge off the snow. This dramatically improves turning, spins, float and tracking on cambered snowboards.

Unlike "early rise" or "rockered" nose/tail transition zone, Arbor's Fenders create smoother performance without shortening the camber section of the board. As a result, you get a clean ride without any loss of the pop or performance that comes from full-length camber. Today, we use Fenders on the majority of our System Camber designs.

Best Ever Board and Lucky to Have Gotten One

"The Element is, was, and always will be my rider. I have been buying Arbors since way back with the Mickey Munoz models. I have probably had a dozen Hawaiian Koa boards. They are not only the most ridable boards I have ever tried, they are easily the most beautiful. I feel I was extremely lucky to get my hands on one of these 25th Anniversary boards brand new from a local shop. Although I planned to ride, it is so beautiful, It's hanging on the wall as art. I may ride it one day but ,for now, it's safe and sound. I feel these will only grow in legend as they get harder and harder to find. If you have a chance to score one, do it."

"My dad has always had this nice Arbor Hawaiian Koa board but it had binding scuffmarks on it and I wanted to refinish it for him. I have looked online and want to know from the people who made the board. Beautiful 10/10 would recommend."
